With all the talk of Flood Maps and Elevations and Sea Level, we thought it might be time to talk vocabulary. No one is sure what exactly is going to happen but hopefully we all will remain calm, informed and optimistic. However, we’ll certainly be discussing these things over the next few years so what words do we use? One thing we should be able to agree on is the term for getting your home higher than it currently is(even that sounds funny). “Raising” should be crossed right off of the list. Way to close to “Razing” and that would be bad. “Elevating” is interesting. Although that brings on visions of Slam Dunk Contests. Fun imagery but it doesn’t quite mesh with the beach. We like “Verticalizing” but it is completely made up. Let’s settle on “Lifting.” It is commonly used in reference to the positive effect on one’s spirits. And that’s always a good thing.
